Have you read the “A whole new mind” from Danieal H. Pink? I just finished it the other week and I think that it is a great book. In his book he explains how we will need to start using our right-brain as much as our left-brain in the years to come. There are three reasons for this: the competition from cheap labour in Asia, the power of computers that replace workers and the abundance of goods.

Have you read the “A whole new mind” by Daniel H. Pink? I just finished it the other week and I think that it is a great book. In his book he explains how we will need to start using our right-brain as much as our left-brain in the years to come. There are three reasons for this: the competition from cheap labour in Asia, the power of computers that replace workers and the abundance of goods.

His opinion is that we need to work on the following six areas to be able to compete effectively in the new market:

Design, to be able to offer unique and exciting design to differentiate our products. Functionality is not enough any more.

Story, the ability to communicate with stories that are easier to be understood and realised.

Symphony, see the big picture and bring ideas together in a new way.

Empathy, we must be able to connect with people in new ways and understand them in a deeper level.

Play, create a new environment of learning and work that uses playing and games as a new way to produce.

Meaning, the addition of meaning in people’s lives can help them to be more motivated and productive.

He explains the above ideas in much detail and also he includes some nice exercises on how to start cultivating them. It is a very enjoyable book and full of practical advice. I recommend it for people who want to start exercising their right-side of the brain. If you like the book you can buy it from here.

Follow the Practical Way,
